Bear in mind that each doctor is different from the next, and that they may have special skills in different fields. Your GP (General Practitioner)

This is normally your first point of contact - if even if they are not a specialist. Based on examinations, they will refer you to cancer specialists.

Pulmonologist

This specialist deals with lung disorders and are trained to diagnose diseases and conditions of teh lungs such as lung cancer, pleural mesotheleoma, asthma, bronchitis, emphysema and COPD.

Thoracic Surgeon

This specilist is a surgeon and performs surgery in the areas of the lungs, heart and chest.

Medical Oncologist

This specialist treats cancer using chemotherapy.

Radiation Oncologist

This specilist is a type of oncologist, however they primarily use radiation therapy to combat cancer.

Radiologist

This specialist uses X-rays, scans and ultrasound equipment to diagnose diseases and problems relating to cancer and other internal disorders.

Pathologist

This specialist is trained to monitor and evaluate changes in cells that indicate diseases through the examinsation of bodily fluids (such as urine,blood, sputum, etc)

Respiratory Specialist

This specialist works in the area of breathing problems.

Social Worker

Not just known as 'basket weavers' these people are able to provide support and practical assistance for patients and sufferers of medical conditions to bring them back into everyday life.
