Abdominal Mesothilioma
Abdominal Mesothilioma (also
known as peritoneal
mesothelioma) makes up around 35% of all the
cases of mesothilioma. More commonly mesothilioma forms in
the tissue around the lungs and heart, and is referred to
as pleural mesothilioma). Abdominal Mesothilioma has
the highest mortality rate of all the
mesothilioma cancers.
Abdominal mesothilioma starts in the lower
part of the abdominal cavity, which is known as the peritoneum,
hence the name peritoneal mesothilioma.
There are up to 500 reported cases of peritoneal
mesothilioma in the US each year, and is widely
attributed to exposure to asbestos.
Usual signs of abdominal mesothilioma are:
- Abdominal pains
- Abdominal weakness
- Weight Loss
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea
- Abdominal swelling
Usually by the time the diagnosis reveals the cancer, it is
often too late to do anything other than to remove portoins of
the tumor to relieve pressure.
There are also other
forms of malignant mesothilioma that you should be aware
of, which have different symptoms.
